Lydia Panas Shows The Mark of Abel – A different take on family portraits

.I was at a First Friday event at the Banana Factory Galleries in Bethlehem PA to see a one woman show of Lydia Panas’ excellent work.
The subjects of these portraits were milling about the gallery as if they had stepped out of the picture frames.

Ian, thank you for introducing me to Lydia’s work! I think her photographs are stunning, mysterious and filled with tension. Not typically what I expect to see from family portraits. Very moving.

Incredible trust on the part of the subjects: Lydia’s talent is not just in making the photos, but in gaining the trust. Few are capable of it.

Thanks for sharing this story, Ian. I showed Ms. Panas’ pictures at a workshop I was teaching over the weekend and we talked at length about following personal visions vs. established market preferences. Clearly, Ms. Panas’ family portraits are not following established market preferences.

Ian, Her work is amazing and I love the natural feel as though she just caught her subjects as they were passing by. Very inspirational. Thanks for sharing.
